Techno Mobile has been in the local market since 2017. Founded in 2006, the Shenzhen-based company primarily focuses on manufacturing budget smartphones. Before entering the South Asian market, the company’s market focus was on Africa where it became one of the top 3 mobile brands. Tecno Spark 8 Pro lives up to the company’s ideal of delivering the best in a budget. The phone was officially launched in Bangladesh on 15th November. Here are some of its key features so that customers can decide whether it could be their next choice or not.
The design of the Tecno Spark 8 pro is definitely one of its strongest suits. Although the phone sports a plastic body all around, it still looks and feels premium in the hand. The back of the phone features dual-tone plastic which gives it a unique look. The camera module is encased in a wide glossy panel that gives the rear an attractive dual-tone look.
At 0.36-inches thick, the phone is relatively on the bulky side. However, it ensures a solid build with no flex anywhere. Although the phone is made of plastic. The volume rocker and power button are on the same right side of the phone. The bottom of the phone houses a USB Type-C port along with a headphone jack and a bottom-firing speaker. Overall, the design is nothing over the top. But build quality is pretty solid considering the all-plastic build.
The display is one of the major selling points of the Tecno Spark 8 Pro. There is a 6.8-inch IPS LCD capacitive display on the front. The display comes in a Full HD Plus resolution with a density of 395 ppi. It supports a wide color gamut at 16M colors.
Since the device is quite tall, Tecno has opted for a 20:9 aspect ratio with this device. The top center has a punch hole for the front-facing camera. The hole is a bit bigger compared to the competitors in the market but that’s just the way things are for budget smartphones.
The display has an 83.7% screen-to-body ratio which is not the best but not terrible either. The screen is perfectly legible indoors and can go up to 450 nits outdoors. Viewing angles are also decent but it starts to show some color shift in low light. However, touch response and sRGB range are more than that. It is one of the best IPS LCD panels in a budget range.
Tecno Spark 8 Pro has a triple camera module on the back. The primary sensor is a 48 MP, f/1.8, PDAF wide-angle lens. Apart from this, there is a 2 MP f/2.4 portrait lens. However, it mainly works as a depth sensor for portrait shots. The phone also has an additional AI lens with f/2.0 aperture.
The main camera can record in 4K at 30 fps which is quite decent considering the budget offering. Outdoor photos come out bright and crisp with the right lighting. However, things start to get grainy indoors in a dimly lit environment. For the price, the main camera takes decent pictures that are nothing out of the ordinary.
Up front, the phone offers an 8MP f/2.0 single shooter with dual flash. The front camera can record in 1080p at 30fps. The story of the front camera is the same as the rear camera. Colors and details look beautiful in well-lit environments. However, the camera really struggles in low light. There is no portrait option on the front camera.
Tecno Spark 8 Pro features MediaTek Helio G85 processor based on 12nm processor. For a more convenient understanding, it is equivalent to the Snapdragon 730G variant. The CPU runs on an octa-core setup with 2 2.0 GHz Cortex A-75 processors and 6 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 processors. The octa-core design with two intensive cores makes the device good enough to run daily tasks smoothly.
GPU is Mali-G52 MC2. The GPU is good enough for gaming on a budget. It can run some intensive games like Asphalt and PUBG quite well. Although the phone gets a little hot after heavy usage.
The phone has a 64 GB internal ROM as well as 6 GB RAM. Internal storage may seem low by 2021 standards. But the added SD card slot makes life easier.
The phone is well covered on the connectivity front. It features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and dual-band WLAN. There are two SIM slots, one of which holds a micro SIM. However, there is no NFC or infrared port on this device.
The phone has a removable 5000 mAh Li-Po battery. Tecno is constantly pushing 5000 mAh battery in their devices which makes them a reliable choice for long battery life. Mid-range processors are not power-hungry at all. Battery life can be extended up to two days with moderate usage. Tecno claims a battery standby time of 120 hours with 35 hours of talk time and up to 15 hours of continuous video playback.
Tecno has official retailers in Bangladesh and the phones are also sold officially. The retail price of the phone is Rs 14,990.
Tecno Spark 8 pro is a budget offering that ticks many boxes It features a premium design with a durable build. The screen is one of the best in this price range and the processor is good enough for everyday tasks. It can even handle casual gaming quite well. Battery as usual is its strong point. However, Tecno could have done better with their camera module but at this price range, there isn’t much to complain about. Overall, this could be a great phone for heavy users who don’t prioritize the camera much.
